  • During the Vietnam War, thousands of families donated their faithful dogs to the war effort. The dogs were trained to protect soldiers by doing things like sniffing out mines or noticing ambushes.

    After the war the dogs had to be left as part of agreement for ending the conflict. Many soldiers tried to bring their companions back -- many of whom saved their lives -- but to no effect.
